Ice Maker Failure Causes and Repairs - Part

  1. Repair methods for common ice machine faults

 Ice machine fault phenomenon: The compressor works but does not refrigerate. Fault cause: Refrigerant leaks or the two-way solenoid valve is damaged and not closed tightly.

 Repair method: After leak detection, repair the leak and add refrigerant or replace the solenoid valve

 Ice machine fault phenomenon: The compressor has been working to refrigerate, the water pump has been working to pump water, and the ice cubes are getting thicker, but it can never automatically enter the de-icing program to drop ice.

 Ice machine fault cause: The water temperature probe is faulty, so that the intelligent control system cannot effectively sense the water temperature and work, misjudgment of program errors, or controller failure.

 Ice machine repair method: Use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the water temperature probe (when the water temperature in the water tank is close to 0℃, unplug the three-core wire in the control box and test the resistance of the two wires on both sides). If the resistance is above 27K, it is judged that the controller is broken and should be replaced. If the resistance is lower than 27K, any one of the two wires must be disconnected and the resistance value is adjusted to between 27K and 28K by connecting a resistor in series.

  1. The ice maker enters the de-icing procedure (the water pump stops working and the compressor stops refrigeration) but the ice cubes do not fall off. Cause of the fault: the two-way solenoid valve is damaged.

 Repair method: replace the solenoid valve body or the outer coil.

 The water shortage light of the ice maker is on but the machine does not automatically replenish water. Cause of the fault: there is no water in the pipeline or the water inlet solenoid valve is faulty and the valve does not open.

 

Ice maker repair method: check the water inlet of the pipeline. If there is no water, open the water circuit and restart the machine. If the water inlet solenoid valve is faulty, replace it.

 

  1. The ice maker compressor works but the water pump does not work (no water flow). Cause of the fault: the water pump is damaged or the water pump is blocked by scale inside.

 

Ice maker repair method: clean the water pump or replace it.

 

  1. Determine the fault according to the indicator light of the ice maker

 

  1. The power indicator light of the ice maker keeps flashing quickly and the machine does not work: Cause of the fault: the water temperature probe is broken.

 

Ice maker repair method: open the rear cover, open the electrical control box cover above the compressor, find a three-core connector, check whether it is detached or in poor contact, and reconnect it.

 

  1. The three ice type lights of the ice maker flash in a cycle, and the machine does not work: Cause of failure: The machine does not make ice and defrost normally; Repair method: restart the machine.

 

  1. First check whether the fan and water pump of the ice maker are working properly. If there is any abnormality, eliminate it first, and then check whether the compressor has started working. If not, check the controller and the accessories of the compressor; if it has started, judge that the refrigeration system is faulty and repair it according to the corresponding repair method.

 

  1. If the refrigeration system has no faults and can make ice normally, but it has been making ice without defrosting, the machine will judge that it is abnormal after 90 minutes and stop for protection. You need to use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the water temperature probe (when the water temperature in the water tank is close to 0 degrees, unplug the three-core wire in the control box and measure the resistance of the two wires on both sides). If the resistance is above 27K, it is judged that the controller is broken and should be replaced. If the resistance is lower than 27K, you need to disconnect any one of the two wires and adjust the resistance to between 27K and 28K by connecting a resistor in series.

 

  1. The ice machine's full ice light flashes quickly. Cause of the fault: It means that the defrosting time exceeds the specified time and the machine automatically protects.
